After the first week, expect long days!

Everyone on the TLH team is great. They are all very friendly, helpful and transparent. They do a really great job making the course enjoyable.

Although it is only a four-week course, they do pack a lot into it. The most important part in my opinion is the teaching practice. You are exposed to English learners of three different levels (one level each week). The lessons you prepare can be reviewed by a staff member, and then you receive feedback from an observer at the end of the lesson. You are also required to teach one-on-one lessons as part of the course.

They have a job fair during the course, which is great. They provide you with access to other positions that are available (you receive access after graduating) through an online group, which I personally found more useful; it’s also how I found work fairly quickly.

As for the visa process, that is out of the school’s hands, but they do connect you with a service (you pay separately for it) that is 100% worth it.

The Language House is a rigorous, challenging and surprisingly fun TEFL program, led by extremely talented teachers who, with every lesson, model the techniques students learn to become engaging, competent teachers of English.

The Language House instructors have ingenious ways of getting trainees to move outside their comfort zone, take chances, get silly, and use drama and nonverbal techniques to make learning English a vivid, immersive experience for students.

Students at TLH begin teaching real students almost immediately, applying what is taught in the real world so that the methodology sticks. Because the course is so challenging (lots of homework and lesson planning!), it is also a bonding experience with fellow students. I hadn’t anticipated how much I’d relish being part of my cohort of students. It’s nice, too, that the school is located in the heart of the city. Unlike most of my class, I’m not staying in Prague and I sure will miss my Language House family. Luckily, I carry the lessons and memories with me.

The course was quite intense, especially since I already live in Prague and have a family, so it took up a significant amount of my time with its four weeks of non-stop learning and teaching. However, I have to say it was worth it and incredibly valuable.

All the teachers and instructors involved are outstanding and have such terrific personalities, which really helped to put me at ease and made the course enjoyable. The teaching practice of actually instructing a class was daunting, but it was definitely manageable and highly recommended. Again, all the teachers and instructors were extremely helpful.

I secured a job within a week of finishing the course, and it’s conveniently close to my home. I highly recommend The Language House—an amazing group with a great sense of humor.

Therefore, I had a lot of doubts about it. And what no other course I was interested in attending had, in this particular one, was the customer service and that is what made me have complete confidence in TLH.

I can’t say any cons for this. I mean, you know what you are paying for, you feel like home having all these attention and of course the help. If you are fully committed to completing this course, everything you need will be available for you to make it happen.

Such lovely people right here. That’s something I wouldn’t recommend passing up. If I had to take the course again, I would definitely ask more questions and have better time management in order to ask for more guidance/assistance with my lessons and the theory.

Seriously, if you are hesitating to take the opportunity, contact the school, you can talk directly with Chris (the director) and he will be happy to answer all your questions. He welcomes you as if you were at home.

This is NOT a bs course. I was at school from 9am-8pm either in class, lesson planning, or instructing real adults in a real classroom. I spent a fair amount of time during the weekends doing homework or preparing for the next week. I feel like I’m a pretty smart guy and The Language House challenged me more than I thought it would. They demand a lot from their students and I couldn’t be happier.

The instructors all have decades of experience in teaching and know how to deliver academically rigorous content in a fun and engaging way. While the course is tough (don’t expect to do a lot of tourist stuff or partying), the staff and alumni go out of their way to introduce you to Prague and make sure you’re having a good time. They also provide a ton of support with finding jobs, accommodations, and getting your visa. I would absolutely take this course again and would recommend it to anyone interested in getting a TEFL, even if you don’t plan on staying in the Czech Republic.

It was an enjoyable and busy month. There was plenty of work and learning to be done and we had some crazy fun along the way. The content of the course and its delivery were good. All the staff were friendly and helpful and I received plenty of constructive criticism. TLH provided support with living in Prague and I made friends with others on the course. I am now working in Prague as an English teacher and enjoying being here.

The course was vital to starting my life abroad and learning how to teach English. As a native speaker I knew English but they showed us how to TEACH it and explain it which opened my eyes. They made connecting with people here in Prague easier also you are part of a community and there are power in numbers. Their Facebook group can offer everything from recommendations from other TLH alum about dentist in Prague to items for sale to job opportunities. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this program and experience.

It was a family. A family of current and former students. The course was hard but so worth it. I researched many courses and The Language House seemed to offer the most. It did not disappoint. From the moment I contacted Chris about wanting to take the course to know that I am working they have been there every step of the way. Oh and did I mention I’m 60 years old. The Language House is the place to go. And, Prague is a beautiful city.

TLH preps you for teaching, that’s definitely true. I honestly have no complaints about the content of the course and felt like I knew everything I needed to when going into teaching. However, since COVID, there is less of a TLH community here (not much of an alumni network). Know that if you come here hoping to gain a social network solely through TLH, that you’ll quickly recognize the need to branch out elsewhere. The good thing about this city, though, is that it’s easy to make friends. I’ve made most of mine through hobbies.

That’s not to say you won’t make friends through TLH. You will. What I’m trying to warn potential TLH students of is that my course in particular was a mixed bag. TLH doesn’t really give guidance as far as branching out in Prague socially is concerned, so you have to be independent if you want to thrive here, especially if your course group was like mine. (I did meet some really wonderful people on my course, though. Again, a mixed bag.)

Another thing. The last week of my course had to be held online because someone tested positive for COVID, so we missed out on a few things other courses got to do, and we were also kind of guinea pigs as far as an online version of TLH was concerned. Be aware that having a week or so online is a possibility, and for us it was kind of a mess. Hence why I rated the practice teaching portion as “fair.”

***Also, DO NOT believe it when they tell you the visa process is a breeze compared to other countries!!!!!*** They sold me that bill of goods but it’s been an absolutely god awful, insanely ridiculous and time consuming process for me. Yes TLH is partnered with someone to help you through applying and everything but they have no control over what happens with your application. You can’t even hire a lawyer to help you out if you need one — it’s not like the US. So do NOT let TLH try to sell you on how easy they make the visa process. I can’t even begin to articulate how horrible it’s been for me, and it honestly has put a huge damper on my entire experience in Europe.

Overall, if you’re looking to learn how to be an English teacher, TLH is a very good bet. If you’re looking for a safety net, maybe try somewhere else.
