I cannot recommend TEFL Costa Rica enough for anyone looking to get a quality education while earning their certificate to teach English. Barb does an amazing job creating a positive environment for trainees to learn and flourish. The teacher trainers Eleanor and Chantal are very knowledgeable and do a great job meeting the independent needs of each trainee. They are a great balance and promote learning through experiences and constructive feedback in a way that encourages students to perfect their craft and try new things. Our admin coordinator Alexis was nothing but helpful and positive throughout the entirety of the course. The overall structure of the program is great and allows a lot of hands on teaching experience with content that is all applicable to whatever you will be doing after the course! There is ample time slotted to lesson planning and studying. It was such a positive experience between the actual function of the course as well as the relationships and connections that you get to make within the program! They really provide a great family atmosphere where we were able to get comfortable being uncomfortable and became better educators because of it! I will say it can be overwhelming and intimidating times, but there are so many great resources at your disposal that if you need help, you will always be met with grace. If you’re on the fence, take a leap of faith, it is hands down the best decision I could have made!

I feel so lucky to have found TEFL Costa Rica. I went into this program with zero teaching experience, feeling quite intimidated by it all. However, the course is designed in such a thoughtful manner to allow each student to succeed regardless of their learning style. The teachers and program coordinator created an inclusive and positive learning environment, and thanks to their incredible feedback and support throughout the month, I walked away from the program feeling confident and eager to teach! Additionally, the community in Sámara is so special to be apart of. I loved getting to know my students and learning about their lives in and out of the classroom. I am so grateful for this program and could not recommend it more to anyone interested in teaching abroad.

I recommend TEFL Costa Rica for anyone who wants to teach overseas. This course was easy enough to do well in but hard enough that you actually learned a lot and feel more confident in teaching. The teachers and the staff at TEFL Costa Rica were all incredible, approachable and helpful. It has been an awesome experience and all in all the course has greatly met my expectations.

Unfortunately, this was not a positive experience for me.

The location and standard of teaching was great.

I had some difficulties with equipment failures. My laptop completely broke down and I also had trouble with my phone.

This put me behind on course content and resulted in me becoming anxious.

Being in a stressed and anxious state is not conducive to learning new material.

I generally didn’t feel supported by the coordinators.

I did ask for help and expressed concerns about falling behind on content.

Barbara, did spend some time with me on computers supplied by the school. Only one of them worked and the other was extremely slow and difficult to navigate.

I was not aware of some of the programming I was required to know and could not receive the help I needed to understand this.

I was able to obtain a new laptop. Chantal referred me to a local computer shop.

When I received the new computer, it was configured in Spanish.

I was already behind on a compacted course and felt the additional stress of learning the new configurations was too much pressure.

I decided to drop out of the course in the hope I could pick up with another group.

Barbara was receptive to this but the logistics of this became too difficult.

It’s worth mentioning that once I had decided to postpone the course all support and contact ceased.

I became ill with dysentery due to the water and made one of the coordinators aware of this.

There was no follow ups about my welfare.

I received support from staff at the Blue Iguana and another student colleague who also dropped out of school.

His reasoning for stepping out was similar to myself.

I think most of the students were able to complete the course.

The school did offer support in finding work.

It was extremely disappointing for me not to be able to achieve my goals.

The lack of support and indifference towards my situation has left me feeling damaged.

My preparation, I thought, was good.

I’d completed an online TESOL course before arriving in Costa Rica. 120 hours.

I also had a sound understanding of the local language, Spanish.

I appreciate that circumstances worked against me but feel with some tangible support from the school coordinators I could have had a positive outcome.

Loved my time in the TEFL School in Samara. Barb and the whole team were helpful from day one and made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable! The TEFL team helped make booking the course easy and stress free . They helped securing accommodation in Samara and organised group activities to help meet my new classmates 🙂

The school itself offers both teacher training and practical teaching practice, teaching both local adult and kid Ticos . After the course they help secure an English teaching job either online or in-person , or both 🙂

Love my time at TEFL Samara and would recommend it to anyone interested in becoming a TEFL teacher while exploring beautiful Costa Rica!

Costa Rica TEFL was an amazing program. From the moment I stepped foot in Samara I felt comfortable. The people were inviting, the scenery was beautiful, and it was super easy to find my way around town.

When I got into Costa Rica, the director Barb, was there to answer all my questions and was super helpful in getting me adjusted to the new place. Once the course started I felt like I fit right in. Chantal and Eleanor were wonderful teachers, they provided great feedback and allowed you the space to grow as a teacher. Between Barb, Chantal, and Eleanor I felt at ease with any concerns that I had, and each of them were ready to answer any questions I had throughout the course.

The course was definitely challenging but in all the right ways. I grew in so many ways, I was able to build up my confidence, and I learned to not be afraid to speak up. I also broadened my love of teaching. I got the chance to teach so many wonderful students during my course and after I graduated; TEFL landed me a job teaching online with other local students.

Without Costa Rica TEFL I wouldn’t have started this amazing journey I’m on. Teaching English has been an adventure and now I can take those skills almost anywhere that I want to travel! I would highly recommend Samara TEFL.

This was the best way to spend my summer. Samara shortly became one of my favorite places in the world. The director Barbara was as sweet and helpful as can be. Portia was amazing. The two teachers–Chantal and Eleanor were wonderful when it came to feedback and helping us learn the information. I would recommend this course to anyone.

Costa Rica TEFL was such a great experience that I really cannot say a bad word about it. From the very first day you’re thrown into the deep end, but the teacher trainers are so amazing that I really believe it’s the best way to go. By the end of the course I felt perfectly comfortable at the front of the class and super excited to begin my life as a teacher.

The training is brilliantly led, making the theory very clear and utilising various intelligences and learning styles to help everyone understand it! Further, the way it is done helps you to break down barriers and become great friends with your fellow teachers, friends that you will cherish forever!

The free Spanish lessons are a great help to get to grips with the basics and also to give an idea of what it can be like to be a student picking up a foreign language. I have also heard that the yoga classes, though I never attended any, are very good.

Samara itself is also a little gem of a place to live and I will always think of it as a second home. The people are lovely, the ocean is right there and the various beaches that are dotted around are beautiful.

Overall Costa Rica TEFL was a fantastic experience and I loved it from start to finish. I will always look back on it as one of my favourite and best memories.

My time in Samara, Costa Rica during the Costa Rica TEFL certification course was incredible. I am so lucky to have chosen such a school to get TEFL certified. I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my career and spoke to many friends and acquaintances whom recommended that I pursue TEFL. The staff at Costa Rica TEFL were so friendly and helpful which was one of the main reasons for choosing their school. I didn’t feel like I was contacting with a large company, but with a team of woman who were passionate about their careers as well as the community that they lived in. Learning how to lesson plan and conduct English lessons was very empowering and it was nice to have constant feedback from not only the teacher trainers but from my peers and English students as well. The lifetime job placement assistance that they also offer was a huge benefit. During the course they began speaking with all of us about the location, student level, and type of school that we would like to work in during week 2 of the course. They also provided me with job placement assistance after the course and were extremely responsive and helpful which made them stand out from other schools. Thank you CRTEFL for an eyeopening and humbling experience. I will be recommending your program for years to come!

I did Tefl in Playa Samara,Costa Rica last April 2018. It was the best choice I made in my life. If I knew about this before college I would have done this instead. Its a really efficient and organised course and you get the tools to teach confidently. I am so very grateful for my Tefl Director Barbara. She will guide you through the month and after you have completed the course.I have been living in Costa Rica for one year. Tefl

was my gateway to the world and fullfilling all my dreams.
