I completed my training with TEFL Trainer in Madrid in the later months of 2017, as part of my year abroad for university, and absolutely loved it. The online course was very easy to follow and even enjoyable to complete, I felt fully equipped with regards to grammar knowledge and background on the TEFL system when going into work. Julia was always very supportive with any questions or issues I had and was on hand to help, the experience of teaching 1 on 1 classes in Madrid to a range of levels and ages was very valuable. I have since worked teaching English in Brazil, and am currently looking for teaching positions in school in the UK. I would definitely recommend TEFL Trainer as a year abroad placement if you study Spanish, you can be placed in the thick of lively Spanish city life, spend your day talking to locals and gain great teaching experience for your future career prospects.

I have completed a two-months teaching internship with TEFL Trainer in Valencia, Spain during which I have had the most enriching experience. Not only does the TEFL Trainer online course offer all of the tools and resources necessary to become a good ESL Teacher but it is presented in a straightforward and comprehensive manner. Teaching in Spain is an excellent experience for putting into practice all of the knowledge acquired. Although some difficulties may occur during the placement (long hours, language barrier etc.), Julia’s constant support, feedback and quick responses make this particular method successful as she deals with every situation with care and consideration.

I encourage anybody who is interested in TEFL to pursue this course!

I think it was a great experience: the online tests and course were very well done and extremely useful both for adquiring information about the teaching method and for reviewing all the most important parts of a language ( grammar, vocabulary, phonetics…).

Julia was always supporting me showing her enthusiasm towards my own ideas and proposal for the diaries. She was ready to answer to my doubts and questions and moreover she has always been fast in answering.

The topics were not too easy to develop and I needed to look for information, vĂdeos and article and this made the writing interesting.

I found TEFL Programme a great opportunity to discover and enter the teaching world. I felt extremely supported by Julia both before and during the internship. I appreciated the way the course is structured, and I think it gives you the main notions to learn how to approach to this sector. As regards my internship, I attended it at Valencia Language Club. On the one hand, the internship has been a wonderful experience since it allowed me to plunge into teaching practice and learn a lot about it. On the other hand, I didn’t feel well-supported by the staff as regards lesson planning and teaching method. The organization was a little confusing to me, and I think that the way they treated interns as fully employed teachers is too much. Considering that we are not paid and we are not properly followed by other teachers, the responsibilities and the pretensions they gave us were too high. Anyway, on the overall it was more then a positive experience.

I did the course in Summer 2018, Madrid. Apart from excellent practice I want to thank for the incredible idea of online theory! It is brilliant time-saver and no need in hand-writing summery.

I had one of the best time of my life attending this course. It has enriched not only my cultural background and knowledge, but also it helped me to develop skills that are essential to be a good English teacher. Thanking to this course I have now the ability to deal with any kind of situation that can happen in a classroom and I am more aware of how to handle non-native students. The support during the course was excellent and the team is really professional. I highly recommend this TEFL course as it enables you to pursue a teaching career all around the world and gives you more job opportunities.

When I first got there in August there were not many students and I hadn’t got training to teach until my third week. I had not got the support that I had needed and it would have been a lot of help if I had gotten more training and advise on a rough schedule I should have followed. However the experience I had being abroad in a different city was very educational and entertaining.

I enjoyed teaching at King’s Language Academy Valencia but there but there were a number of elements that I found unsatisfactory about the TEFL Trainer course.

The staff at the academy were all very accommodating and the whole experience allowed me to learn huge amounts about the TEFL industry; I learnt many teaching techniques on the job thanks to the amount of hands-on teaching responsibility that we were given as interns. In particular, Alex Brown gave me plenty of food for thought on how to teach a class and on the whole TEFL Trainer taught the content of TEFL and English Grammar very well.

However, this is regrettably where the list of positives ends. Though the staff were fantastic at their job, I received little or no feedback or guidance on how to adjust my own lesson plans in all the six months I spent there; it was therefore impossible for me to learn anything about my own teaching methods and whether I was improving or not. Full-time teachers rarely came in to assess how I was teaching a class. Though the hours of teaching practice were helpful, the truth is that no unpaid intern should be given such responsibility (the same as that of a full-time teacher) without reaping the benefits of feedback or money; I became a better teacher because I personally put the hours into making my classes more engaging and researching methods, not because there was particularly effective pedagogy taught by TEFL Trainer.

What this rating system fails to take in account is the amount of wellness support offered by TEFL Trainer. Given that one is potentially moving to a new country, there is very little help given to settle in as an expat. I also dealt with mental health issues during my time in Valencia, which Julia disregarded as symptoms of tiredness towards the end of term. She warned that if I did not complete my full internship, she would be unable to give me any form of certification that I had passed my TEFL, even though I had put in the necessary hours (five months of unpaid work) and stated that I was still willing to complete the diaries and exams. This only increased my anxiety, as it made me feel trapped in a contract that would render my time in Valencia wasted. My university agreed that this was totally unacceptable and as a result have blacklisted TEFL Trainer and removed it from its partner company list.

Though King’s Language Academy was great and offered plenty of experience, TEFL Trainer did not offer the necessary guidance ‘on the factory floor’ for me to feel content with the programme.

I had an excellent time undertaking my TEFL Trainer course in Madrid. The instructors at the centre were not only very kind but also very efficient and competent teachers. During the placement I acquired a range of valuable skills regarding teaching English to non-native students of different ages and backgrounds. In addition, the way the placement is structured is very efficient: an online course is completed alongside the teaching hours and both complement each other very well, allowing the teacher to put into practice and try out new theory or teaching tips with real students in the one on one classes. The experience I gained during my placement was invaluable and the skills I acquired have allowed me to pursue a career teaching English as a foreign language as well as opening up many job and travel opportunities. I highly recommend the TEFL trainer course to anybody looking to pursue a career teaching or travelling abroad!
