Even though I grew up in an English speaking environment, the ICAL course had revealed the deep, significant gap existing between the ability to speak and the competence to speak CORRECTLY.
The language skills and knowledge aquired during the course, as well as the improved self-confidence in using the English grammar PROPERLY, will result in a sharpened attention while interacting with other people; they allow you to pick up on so many mistakes, that even (most of) the native speakers are making.
(One will be surprized how many spelling and grammar mistakes an English native DOS is capable of–15 errors within 8 sentences are no rarity).
However, the Ical-Wiki is one huge well, ready to satisfy anyone’s knowledge thirst; it is obvious that the people behind the ICAL ressources have a sound teaching experience.
While some of the assesment questions are not clearly understandable, there is a tutor responsible for you, who will do his best to answer any of your questions, within an amazingly short matter of time; that is, of course, if you are lucky and get a tutor like I had 🙂
Last but not least, the course fee is more than acceptable; in fact, it is incredibly low, if you take in account all the services, the ressources, the trouble your tutor is going with his/her students, and so on.
In conclusion, it has to be said that taking the ICAL course WILL definitely improve your language skills, and it will unequivocally develop your teaching skills (some of which will come up to be under difficult circumstances).
Personally, I would surely recommend the ICAL course to anybody who plays with the idea of becoming a teacher, but especially those among them who want to make addifference.
Being a teacher is an easy task – being a GOOD teacher is a challenge.
And this is the goal that you can reach by taking this course, by paying attention to your tutor’s notes and suggestions, by honestly admiting that you will probably never be perfect.
By the way, becoming a teacher for financial reasons is not only stupid, but wrong.
My humble oppinion: a (good) teacher should follow this path ONLY if he/she is aware of his/her significant position, of the paramount importance of the job, and of the responsibility that he/she carries.
