I attended Oxford TEFL Prague in October 2013 and was so glad that I did. It was a month of hard work, but I enjoyed every minute of it. They make it very clear that it’s a tough course and you will be required to work hard and you definitely do! However thanks to wonderful tutors who provide such great support, the work is fun! There was plenty of contact time with the tutors for support and feedback and they are all incredibly helpful with all queries and difficulties such as “I have to teach tomorrow and I have no idea what to teach”, “how do I make a lesson on the past perfect fun?” and of course helping you during the maddening mid course fear that you’re rubbish and can’t do this (of course you can!)

I loved every minute of my course and would recommend it to anybody serious about getting a really good qualification and having a enjoyable time doing it. Do it. You won’t regret it.

The course at Oxford TEFL in Prague was nothing short of amazing. While it was demanding and intensive, it was also very rewarding, insightful and extremely fun. I had done a lot of thorough research on which course to do at which school, and when I decided on Oxford, I knew I had made a good choice. By the time I was halfway through, I knew I had definitely made the best choice.

Teaching practice with real students began almost immediately. As we learned from our own style and our own mistakes, we were provided with tremendously insightful feedback after every lesson, challenging us to adapt and improve. The tutors are superstars – professional, knowledgeable, approachable and supportive. They made it seem like a breeze (it wasn’t, but they did a damned good job at making us better at it). The course was practically bursting with information, but its structure and progression made it manageable and fun. We had various workshops and seminars on grammar, phonology, vocabulary, Business English, teaching young learners, finding jobs, and more. The school is central, welcoming and well-equipped and the receptionists are lovely and always ready to help.

Doing the course at Oxford has helped me not only establish myself and develop as a teacher, but made me more confident on the whole. I wouldn’t have approached a presentation role with a ten-foot pole before doing this course, and now I’m teaching and managing classes of 12+ students every morning and loving every minute of it. I highly recommend the experience to anyone interested in teaching. You will be a better person for doing it.

I had already received previous recommendations for doing this particular course – my mother was course director for a part-time Trinity Cert TESOL here in my home town and my sister had been with the Barcelona branch of Oxford TEFL. They both gave me, I believe, essential advice if you want to continue in the field of EFL teaching; “pick the right CERTIFIED TEFL course”. I believe I did.

The course itself was not only eye-opening from a linguistic perspective, but incredibly effective at providing a good range of information that could be digested in the space of just a month. What really makes me appreciate the course is that they made it an incredibly enjoyable experience while still being intensive – and the course IS intensive. I knew this going in and I was a little apprehensive. However, it was also the most fun I have ever had while learning which of course made me want to put effort into my studies. This was due to a variety of reasons. First of all, the tutors at Oxford TEFL were outstanding. While they obviously had an element of professionalism about them, the classroom environment was very positive in that it was clear that they enjoyed their jobs, which of course is a great positive-reinforcement based motivational tool for the trainees. I also think that it is quite rare to have a level of report with the tutors that I found on this particular course. They were friendly and accommodating, but certainly were there to give you a kick in the backside or some strong motivation words if you needed them! It was clear that they really did want you to succeed – and that was a nice feeling as a trainee.

In terms of teaching practice, we were thrown into the deep end almost immediately – but that was most certainly a good thing. Teaching was enjoyable and rewarding and I quickly found my particular method and mannerisms. The feedback I received was fantastic and every piece moulded my next lesson, thus I found I continually improved as a teacher.

The 4 weeks I spent on the course, not only gave me invaluable information and teaching experience (and of course a hard Trinity Cert TESOL!) that I can use with my on my TEFL travels, but also some memories that I will cherish for years to come. I highly recommend Oxford TEFL.

TWO THUMBS UP.

I can’t stress it enough! If you want to take a TEFL course in Prague, Oxford is the place to do it.

The course was both well organised in terms of progression of content and well thought out in terms what content to employ in such a short period. Having previously worked in marketing I was under the assumption that I was capable of producing excellent English and would therefore be capable of teaching it with ease. How wrong I was!

Grammatical complexities such as infinitive and gerund use were beyond my capacity to explain, and my ability to produce a lesson from scratch was non-existent. The incredibly personable staff were there to assist from day one, taking on our questions and fears (sometimes outside of hours at a pub) and turning them into strengths.

The teaching practice was invaluable as we were put in front of classes of real students in a trial and error approach to learning to teach. Each teaching practice session concluded with an in depth feedback session during which we would work together with our tutors to highlight and maintain our personal strengths, and acknowledge and gain advice on how to improve our weaknesses.

The teachers were all experienced and knowledgeable beyond compare, and as a result I felt safe in the knowledge that I was getting the best education available.

The course also included a workshop on job searching and adjusting our CV and experiences to suit what potential employers were looking for. They even sent out my CV for me to a number of schools in Prague!

The facilities are up to date, with projectors and computers in most rooms allowing trainees the opportunity to experiment with different mediums.

The course was social, fun, exciting, and invaluable. I learned more than I imagined I would and forged friendships that will last for years to come. I cannot find a single flaw in this course, and I would gladly recommend it to family, friends, and strangers alike.

OxfordTefl in Barcelona – THE place to get your CertTESOL! I just had the most enjoyable and rewarding 4 weeks there and would recommend this course to anyone considering a TEFL qualification, especially now they’re at shiny new school premises! I considered doing my course with another provider in London, but am so glad I chose OxfordTEFL and Barcelona – I had the chance to use my Spanish outside the course and my knowledge of Spanish certainly came in useful for the Learner Profile project, as I could more easily understand why my learner made the mistakes she did when producing English: an advantage I probably wouldn’t have had in my home town. Oh, and no home life distractions either! The help and support from the tutors and other staff at OxfordTefl was amazing. Even when your teaching practice might not have gone as well as you’d hoped, or your lesson planning was not going to plan, they were there with encouragement and support. The resources available to you are good – course books to help with your lesson planning, computers to help create your own lesson materials and write up your projects. It was a crazy 4 weeks and there’s no denying the intensity and amount of work required. But by far an experience I’ll remember fondly for a very long time, and some long term friendships made with my fellow trainees. Thanks again to Course Director Anna Stubbs and everyone else on the TESOL team at OxfordTefl.

Overall, I was very impressed with the course. Oxford TEFL are market leaders in TEFL training and I can understand why. They manage to pack so much into the course and it’s very intense as a result, however, I always felt that I was fully supported by all the staff with regards lesson planning, coursework completion, accommodation and pretty much anything else.

What’s more, the teaching staff really know their stuff! They have a good variety of teaching approaches between them and I always had really productive feedback sessions with them which really helped me grow into the role of a teacher.

I took the Oxford TEFL course in Prague in Sept. 2013, and it was an excellent course! The course is rigorous, so be prepared to do a lot of work! The tutors were all very knowledgeable and humble. This was refreshing because they gave you the chance to try your own methods, but were there to help when you needed it. They were also easy to joke around with, providing a perfect balance of serious teaching and fun. The student teaching was enjoyable, getting to see the same students for more than one lesson, and even getting to know them outside of class. The course content was very useful, I learned a lot that I didn’t know about the English language. Job placement for our fellow teachers staying in Prague seemed to work out very well. Unfortunately Oxford TEFL didn’t have many contacts in Bali or Thailand, where I decided to teach. Despite this, they did their best to connect us with past teachers that went to teach in Indonesia, and helped as they were able, including providing us with a list of schools in Bali to send our CVs to. They also reviewed our CVs for us before we sent them out. The quality of feedback from the tutors was very good – you could tell they were paying attention to your lesson and really analyzing it so that they could help you with their comments. They were excellent at giving you a good balance of positive feedback and suggestions. Overall the course was excellent, and what really made it were the tutors (including the director, who is also a tutor)!

I’m so glad that I went to Oxford Tefl in Prague to gain my Trinity Cert TESOL qualification. I have only just completed the October course, so it is hard to gauge my job prospects at the moment. However, I have still received a lot of support to get a job for January next year. I’m unsure of the their help for teachers hoping to work outside of Europe, but if you wish to work on the continent their support is brilliant and they have great links with other language schools.

The Course was fantastic, undoubtedly intense, yet incredibly rewarding and a must if you wish to teach English abroad. I learnt so much from the tutors, from their feedback which was always astute with the right balance of positive feedback and fair criticism, making it clear on the areas you needed to improve upon. All the tutors were brilliant though, all of them had so much experience and knowledge of teaching which meant you were constantly learning stuff from them. They were also all very friendly and approachable meaning if you ever needed support they were always there to help. They also made doing the course a joy, even when it was at its most intense, we still had fun together.

You also of course cover everything necessary for teaching such as grammar, phonology and vocabulary as well as all preparing you for job interviews and help in creating a TEFL C.V. Spending time in a great city such as Prague is also a great opportunity which shouldn’t be ignored.

My only criticism was that I wished there was a larger area for trainees to use in the evenings when looking through the course books, as it could get cramped if multiple teachers stayed behind for lesson ideas. However, I am aware that on a practical level it’s not really possible.

Overall I had an amazing time and was sad when the course finished!

I took the Oxford TEFL course in Prague in September 2013, and I don’t know how I would have managed without it. The course is a lot of work, but this is not a bad thing. If you want to become a competent English teacher in four weeks, then it’s necessary to devote 8-10 hours a day learning the trade.

The course gave us plenty of teaching practice with adult students at varying levels. After the course was over we also had the opportunity to take extension courses in Business English and English for Young Learners, both of which helped me improve my teaching further.

The tutors were amazing! All very experienced English teachers who know the ins and outs of teaching, but also very friendly and approachable people with a good sense of humor. The feedback they would give was honest and direct, and it helped to make sure that I got better every time I taught. They were always available in the mornings to help you get that day’s lesson plan together and to help you test it out beforehand. Lesson planning was made even easier due to an extensive library which had any ESL textbook you could possibly want.

Job placement was great, and Sinead made the extra effort to make sure our CV’s went out early so that finding work in Prague would be even easier for us.

I highly recommend that anyone interested in becoming an English teacher take this course. Not only will you get a well recognized certification, but you will leave feeling confident in your teaching abilities and will make a lot of new friends along the way.

I took Oxford TEFL’s September 2013 course in Prague. The city is amazing, and a great location to experience Eastern Europe. It proved to be intensive, and was well worth the hard work. If you are willing to put in the effort you will find the class to be rewarding, despite your previous experience/background. We had students in the class from all around the U.S, as well as outside of the U.S. You have the opportunity to meet new people and collaborate many times throughout the course, whether it be student teaching or in class activities/group work. You have ample time to practice teaching in the classroom and it really prepares you for a job as you are expected to prepare lesson plans and teach various levels of adult ESL learners. I taught in South Korea a few years before taking the course, and am so glad I decided to get my certification with Oxford. Not only did I learn invaluable classroom experience, but the course content also very useful in mastering the English language. The course focused on lessons for grammar and phonology, and even a foreign language class.

Last but not least, the teachers are extremely helpful! They really want you to succeed and guide you each step of the way. You are expected to put in the work, but they are more than happy to assist you and guide you in the right direction. Each one of them has a different teaching style that really helps you see various methods, as opposed to the same one. I highly recommend the course for anyone interested in teaching ESL! 🙂
