I can’t imagine jumping into my first job as an English teacher in China without the kind of training provided by Oxford TEFL. I completed the course at the Prague location in June 2013, but have waited to review the course until after I had some time in my job to determine how well it has prepared me.

I’m not sure I could imagine having a better experience for CertTESOL training. I was extremely pleased with the course in all facets. I found the instructors personable, fun, knowledgeable, experienced, helpful, and motivating. Though they were all different, the diversity in their approaches to the ELT classroom made the experience rich. Their feedback on the practice teaching was one of the most important parts of the course. Having the opportunity for high-quality English teachers to give you pointers on your own lessons is worth the cost of the course in itself. All of the instructors had helpful insights that I believe have made me a much better teachers.

The course covers a lot of ground in a few short weeks, but it moves fast. The content is largely introductory/summary of what you need to know as a English teacher but it sets you up well for advancing your knowledge and skills as you begin to teach in a job. I have found that the course gave me a strong foundation to build upon even as I continue to learn how to teach! The course is largely set up to prepare you to teach in a generic private language school classroom with a handful of motivated students, which is important to know if you plan to teach in a different context. I teach in a university in China where I have 40 students per class, where I only teach speaking, where the students are graded, and the classroom is a small auditorium. This means, there was a lot left for me to adapt and learn on my own.

My fellow trainees were a blast to get to know as well, which only made the course that much more fun! Prague is pretty awesome itself so that’s a major plus too.

I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested.

A really intense class, but worth every minute. We had plenty of practice teaching adults of varying levels, and we had classes that covered everything from lesson planning and classroom management to grammar and phonology. I definitely felt prepared for teaching in a classroom after taking this course! The tutors are all excellent– great sense of humor, great feedback, really knowledgeable, and always warm and welcoming.

Since this course was based in Prague, they had plenty of contacts in the Czech Repulic and Europe. Not as much if you’re thinking of teaching in Asia, but still helpful in the preparation of resumes and interview tactics.

Overall, I’d choose this TEFL Course again! And Prague’s an amazing place to live and study for four weeks!

I am so glad I went with OxfordTEFL. Everyone is very helpful, understanding and patient. The course is super intensive and you sometimes don’t get the time to eat or even sleep (:P) but it is so worth it. The efforts put in by the instructors and all the knowledge that you get is just amazing. The course might frazzle your nerves but the support and guidance of the instructors would surely soothe them and make you feel much more confident and ready to go :).

I took the course in August of 2013 in Prague and I enjoyed it immensely. For someone who has never traveled much, let alone to Europe, working with OxfordTEFL was a painless way to ease into the country and acquire a TESOL certificate.

The course was rigorous and forced you to apply yourself from Day 1, but it proved to be a motivational builder by days end. The instructors all work hard, play hard, and do what needs to get done.

If you’re intending to go through a course to acquire a TESOL cert, look no further. OxfordTEFL should be your place. I definitely recommend it (just as I had it recommend to me).

I studied the Trinity cert TESOL in the Barcelona school, and found it a very stimulating experience. I thought the overall quality of teaching was excellent, and the vast majority of programme content relevant and well presented. The neighbourhood is also very central and attractive. The support you get from the school in finding a job is also excellent, and continues after you’ve left. Also useful is that you receive a welcome pack with all sorts of useful information to help you navigate the practical and cultural aspects of living in Barcelona.

I would balance this review by saying that I felt too little time was spent overall learning how to plan one-to-one classes, which have such a different energy and character from group classes. While learning on the job is important, one-to-one teaching can make up a significant amount of future work, so I feel more course time should have been given to the best ways to find private students, plan the classes, and keep the momentum going. Having said this, I’m not sure if this is a feature of other courses, and generally think it should be!

Overall, I would highly recommend this course and the school. I learnt a lot, made great friends and contacts, and it has enabled me to live in one of the world’s greatest cities!

Hello my name is Aleajndra Soler,

I am from Chile and I did the TEFL course in june 2013 in Barcelona. My experience was good, the course encourages you and gives you loads of experince to teach.

As a non native is a little difficult to find jobs but if you are creative and tenacious there are ways to make it happen and you always count with the support of the staff.

I learned very much and my classmates were great people as the teachers and tutors.

Dont let this opportunnity pass by is worth it.

🙂

Alejandra Soler.

I completed the Oxford TEFL program in Prague in May, 2013. After conducting A LOT of research on various TEFL programs (including reading reviews on this particular site), I chose to participate in this program. I am VERY happy that I did.

What impressed me most about this program was the competency and knowledge of the instructors. I found their feedback, teaching styles, advice and overall insight extremely helpful, innovative and very relevant to today’s ever-changing teaching environment. I walked away from this program not only knowing how to better analyze a student’s/class’s capabilities and challenges, but I also received TONS of brilliant and creative new strategies/methods to utilize in my own classroom.

Additionally, the laid-back and easy-going classroom atmosphere at the Oxford TEFL school also helped boost my confidence as an instructor. The students at the school were fantastic.

Everyone also comments that this course is intensive and a lot of work. This is true. However, if you are an organized and focused person, you won’t have any problems. Just stay on top of the assignments, manage your time effectively and before you know it, the course is over!

I highly recommend this program. You won’t regret it!

I completed the CertTESOL with Oxford TEFL in Barcelona in July 2013. Having been quite apprehensive about undertaking a TEFL course beforehand (not having had any teaching experience), I am pleased that I took the plunge and went for it. It was a really enjoyable month.

The tutors on the course provide lots of support for the trainees and are regularly available to provide advice on how to go about lesson planning, as well as answering burning questions as they arise.

Whilst I initially found the prospect of teaching quite nerve-wracking, the classroom environment was very friendly and this soon enabled me to relax and gain confidence from the experience.

The feedback from the tutors following the lessons was also very valuable. I found their constructive criticism hugely helpful in terms of looking at how to improve on my teaching for the next lesson.

As many of these reviews have said, the course is very intense and alot of work; and should certainly not be viewed as a holiday. But equally it is enjoyable, interesting, stimulating and thoroughly worth the effort.

I would certainly recommend Oxford TEFL to anyone considering a career in teaching, and also to those not sure about their long-term future but perhaps wanting to experience a change from the norm.

Thanks for a great month; I look forward to applying all I have learnt in the classroom.

There are many reasons to choose OXFORD TEFL versus a cheaper online course. When it came time for me to choose, the answer was clear: Study-Abroad in Prague! Immediately after arriving in that beautiful city I was sure I had made the right choice!

When I arrived at the appartment I was met by Shinead, who welcomed me to Prague and introduced me to my new roomies. The appartment itself was very comfortable, and was a great environment for both studying and socializing. The school was a short walk away, and was surrounded by great places to break for lunch. The coursework was heavy and hard work, but I still felt like I had time to enjoy the city.

Addmitely, the coursework itself had little to do with me choosing OXFORD TEFL versus online. Now, after a year of teaching, I am even more confident that I made the right choice in choosing OXFORD because the course content, especially the Practicum, is much richer than anything an online course could offer. When I finished the course I felt confident and well prepared for the ESL classroom. I learned so much from the course, from linguistics, to teaching methods, to suriving and thriving in the ESL industry… but most importanly I learned the skills to continually improve my teaching on my own.

TL;DR I fully reccomend OXFORD TEFL versus an online course. You don’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to travel, explore and learn.

I recently finished the July course at OxfordTEFL here in Prague, and I have to say I loved every minute of it!

Before I came to Prague I was given great support by the school with regards to accommodation etc. I had to arrive a day early and instead of it being an issue, everything was organised for me. I was picked up from the airport and promptly taken to one of the 2 fantastic student apartments.

With regards to the School itself, I found it to a great place to be. Most students stayed after class to use the resources available to us; there are lots of textbooks in the library that helped me a lot.

For me the best asset OxfordTEFL has is it’s fantastic staff. Every one of the tutors made us feel welcomed and gave us such great advice and guidance. Not all of the Tutors share the exact same ideology with regards to teaching practice so you can get an idea of what best suits you when teaching, rather than feeling like you’re becoming a teaching robot!

All in all, I really enjoyed myself, learned so much about teaching and the English language in general and also made some great friends along the way.
