The one and only Language House TEFL in Prague is one of the most popular and beloved TEFL certification companies in the world. With over 20 years in operation, many of their staff have been working for the organization for over a decade. Since its establishment, TLH has strived to create a TEFL certification school that not only includes some of the most rigorous training possible, but also all of the logistical and community support for their graduates to thrive. As of 2024, they have graduated over 3000 successful teachers from their program.

The Language House TEFL is not just a training center, but a network of staff and graduates in Prague and abroad who help and support each other years after graduation. When you sign up for The Language House TEFL, you are not just getting a TEFL certificate; you are entering into a supportive community of staff and graduates who become almost like a second family. This support includes making friends abroad, finding jobs, support with accommodation, and everything in between to aid in your success.

This is one of the more intensive courses you can find. Their website and socials are filled with pics of their trainees having fun in their new home, but make no mistake, The Language House TEFL is an extremely rigorous course. After completion, you will graduate a skilled and competent teacher. They also offer online and blended TEFL courses for those who cannot make it to Prague.

The Language House has been so incredibly helpful in developing my teaching style and keeping me on track. Their staff are quick to respond to any needs and they are wonderful at what they do! I would recommend The Language House to anyone who wants to teach English.

I discovered The Language House through International TEFL Academy. I was not originally sold on moving to Prague, but once I looked into the program and read the reviews, my mind was 100% made up. Sure I could learn to love the cold and Czech language, why not. There’s always beer to get you through it, I told myself.

There are lots of people that choose to become TEFL certified online so that they can continue to work or logon when it’s at their convenience. They move at a slow pace and then pop into a local high school for an hour here and there. That’s the thing with TLH, it’s not convenient. You are completely thrown out of your comfort zone for 30 days. I was uncomfortable about 10 minutes into the first class when the instructors stated creeping around like detectives, while the Pink Panther soundtrack played in the background. Yeah they’re weird, but you get used to it and realize you actually really like all of them and their weirdness.

You receive intense, thorough training from some of the best, truly. Every question you have or don’t have gets brought up and answered for you. Every concern, insecurity and doubt you have about your teaching abilities begins to fade when you see the analysis and focus that comes from these instructors. They are incredibly invested in every single one of their students, it’s truly amazing.

You may be uncomfortable and under slept a bit for 30 days if you’re used to 8 hours a night, but guess what? It’s only 30 days. And after that 30 days, TLH makes you feel like you could teach anyone to speak English. Really…anyone.

I enjoyed my time at TLH a lot! I chose it because it had the most practice teaching hours of any course in Prague and of alumni support after you graduate. I had never taught before joining the course so I wanted to make sure I was well trained. I was not disappointed! There are always people to ask for advice or help when needed and there is always someone who can help you with finding more work.

I am a retired judge from the UK. I took the course in February 2015. The course was one of the most exacting experiences I have ever had. Chris Westergaard is an inspirational man and a brilliant teacher. He combines the abilities to inspire, motivate, cajole, inform and support with the ability to give you his full attention; all with a wonderful sense of mischief, fantasy and humour. Three of the teachers are exceptional and the others very good. The material is thoroughly and carefully prepared and delivered; the opportunity to teach 13 hours in three weeks felt crazy, but was invaluable. Standards and expectations are high; but all the necessary support is generously and warmly given.

Other telling factors: there was a two day orientation involving the course and how to get on in and around Prague; a lot was done to create a sense of community within the course and in the wider fraternity, which was extremely valuable. Advice and assistance is still willingly given nearly a year after having graduated.

Although the school is centrally situated, and the fee very reasonable, the suite of rooms I felt was somewhat shabby and chaotic.

What a great TEFL certification program!

I completed this course in August 2015. This course will prepare you to teach in the real world in any situation that can arise! The course was difficult and time consuming, however, I came out of the course feeling confident in my teaching abilities and in the skills that I learned throughout the course. Since completion of the course I have had no trouble finding multiple jobs with my certification.

Every instructor employed by the school is very knowledgeable and willing to help you with everything they can. There is a good mix of classroom learning, real-life experience teaching and watching your peers teach. The school is a great facility in a popular part of Prague. Overall, I highly recommend taking a course at TLH. I feel prepared and confident that I can work in any classroom environment thanks to their training.

It’s been over a year since I took the month long TEFL course at the language house. Since that time, there’ve been many moments when I flashed back to something an instructor might have said during class. The first time I lost my voice during a 4-hour long intensive I flashed back to Chris saying “It will happen. You will get through it.” And it was true, of course.

There have been so many other situations that came up that was predicted during the class. In fact, I haven’t encountered a situation yet that I didn’t feel prepared for. Standing up for yourself as teacher, getting paid what you’re worth, and more importantly, becoming worth what you’re getting paid. There were times when I had ethical dilemmas, and all I need to do is call Chris for a bit of seasoned guidance. There are so many ways to grow a teacher, and Chris and his team are great at them all. An intense month, for sure – but one filled with moments you’ll revisit in your mind for years.

I attended The Language House TEFL program in April 2015. I researched many different TEFL programs and the main ‘pro’ about The Language House that I kept coming back to was the sense of community. There are TEFL programs all over the world, what most of them lack is a community. The Language House has great teachers, resources, and everything that other programs have as well as a huge network of graduates. It creates support and a sense of home, while being far away from family. I made friends for life at The Language House.

Just remember a TEFL program is not a cake walk, be prepared to work and work hard. It’s a rewarding experience that I wouldn’t change for the world.

I hope to welcome you into The Language House community soon. 🙂

P.S. It doesn’t hurt that Prague is a beautiful city too.

Though the course is very hard, it really helps you get a grasp on TEFL. The staff are very helpful and are always there if you are having issues with anything, both during and after the course. The lessons that you teach are great a great way to gain teaching experience and allow you to see what skills you’ll need to work on. I also got my YLT certification while at The Language House. Adrienne is a wonderful instructor and a great resource for anything YLT related.

Having attended the Language House over one year ago, and I found it to be one of the best expediences of my life. I feel that the Language House Prague is the best place to get certified to teach ESL no matter where you want to teach. The instructors at this school really know and understand what they are teaching, and you will come out of this one month intensive class as a better, more confident teacher than when you arrived.

Communication was great not only throughout the course, but also before and after. When you take a course at TLH you are not only getting certified as an excellent teacher, but also joining the TLH family of alums and gaining great connections both in Prague as well as around the world. I would highly recommend the Language House Prague to anyone who is even thinking about getting certified as an ESL instructor.
