Great course , easy to follow, you can do a bit then stop and do a bit later on with no problem so you can fit it in when you can. The feedback on assignments is very efficinet so you don’t have to wait long for results of an assignment as you can’t continue until each step has been acheived. The feedback from the online tutors was helpful and realistic. The videos of teachers teaching were very good and provided some good ideas. I would have liked to be able to have access to some of the course work to keep for future reference for example some of the grammar lessons would have been good to have to use for my teaching but the information is online for a short period of time and I didn’t try to print any of it but I don’t think I could have done anyway. Even if you had to pay a bit extra for it I wouldn’t mind as it was good. The course was enjoybale because it was broken down into lots of small parts so not at all monotonous and there were different elements to each part so it was always interesting. I already had a lot of teaching experience so it just confirmed to me that i was doing it more or less right. I am not in a position to judge if it would be sufficient for someone starting out teaching for their first time.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO WRITE?

i WOULD LIKE TO HAVE TFL CERTIFICATE BUT I THINK IT’S DIFFICULT

IN THIS MOMENT BECAUSE I TRIED AND PAID A LOT WITHOUT OBTAINING ANYTHING. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS NOT CLEAR WHAT WE HAVE TO DO TO REACH THIS CERTIFICATE. WHEN WE START A COURSE IT’S VERY USEFULL THAT THE LEARNER KNOWS VERY WELL WHAT HE HAS TO DO TO REACH THE AIM, ESPECIALLY IF HE IS A FOREIGN LEARNER.

THANK YOU

PAOLA LUPI

A very interesting course which gave me the chance to get to know more practical tips for teaching. I have been teaching for quite a while now but it’s always a good idea to exchange his ideas with other participants.

I can recommend this course even if it’s very much focused on children and teenager teaching. I would have expected to have more lectures about adult teaching and exercises for those.

Otherwise the course was well designed and offered all what you could imagine with great feedbacks from the tutors and video seminars etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of learning with i-to-i and would recommend it to anyone. The resources for the course were excellent but more videos of teachers teaching in classes in foreign countries would be beneficial (this has been rectified in the new courses being run which I was involved in testing out). However,I did suggest that it might be a good idea to make available for purchase a dvd of teachers in real life teaching scenarios. I believe this would be a good tool in increasing confidence levels. The course was brilliant and it has inspired me to study for a degree and I am also currently enjoying a role as a part time (I work full time in another job) teaching assistant in an ESOL class at a local college. Thank you i-to-i for helping me on the road to achieving a dream of teaching in a foreign country.

I have 8 years teaching experience in China and Germany. So when I did the 140 hour online course I felt I already knew most of it. In fact my grammar was very strong, and classroom management was good too. But I learnt a hell of a lot from this course and found the assessments to be demanding. I liked that you could work as slowly or as quickly as you liked. I also liked that you could download all of your tests and modules as pdf documents to keep them for reference. The webinars were also very useful and entertaining and provided a bit of a forum for some interaction and submission of ideas from other tutees, led by an experienced tefl teacher, who was down to earth and empathetic. Completing this course gave me confidence to do the CELTA which luckily got funded 😉 and I might not have passed with an easy ‘B’ had I not done the i-to-i 140 hour course. Actually the extra modules for the 140 hr certificate were probably not worth anything in terms of knowledge gains. I didn’t get a job because of this certificate, but I didn’t really try to.

To conclude I would say that a graduate probably doesn’t need this certificate to get a job; and for a graduate the CELTA or TRINITY is preferable. i-to-i also provide an equivalent course to the CELTA. Now that I have the CELTA I am in no better position for getting a lucrative post than I was when I had the i-to-i 140 hour tefl certificate. Many employers around the world do not differentiate between them. Without a degree a CELTA is not worth more than an i-to-i 140hour certificate in terms of being better positioned to get a well paid job in a top ranking country such as Japan. Korea, Saudi, UAE, Spain etc . But the training on a CELTA is first class and with real students and under extreme pressure as you are continually assessed by peers and trainers and adult students, who are volunteers that you need to win back for other days! I do not regret doing the 140 hour i-to-i certificate at all, I really enjoyed it, and networked with lots of interesting people. But on the CELTA course I made friends for life! So for graduates it is cheaper than a CELTA, but for non-graduates it is almost equal in terms of what a lot of employers demand!

I had a great time doing this course!!

Some units I of course preferred to others, the content was much more difficult to grasp, no matter what hwlp the tutors gave it took time to complete, but it really was great. I did an online course and a two-day course in London. The teacher there was great, really enthusiastic and explained things excellently. With the online course, the tutors were very helpful and offered as much help as they could.

I recommended the course to my aunty, and she was able to find work when she lived in China, I am currently enjoying great experiences thanks to this programme. Yay!!! It was a great choice

Overall, the on-line course content was good (although at times a little pedantic and rigid in the teaching approach) and I felt I learnt enough to undertake one-to-one teaching for adults.

I received positive comments after each checkpoint – which was encouraging – but I would hesitate, in some instances, to call it feedback. Surely, I could have improved in some areas but, after the first checkpoint, I received scant advice.

I have one minor gripe and one major one:

Minor – the tests after each set of three modules were pedantic. For example, if an answer was given in the singular case, and not plural, it was marked as incorrect. Some of the multiple choice choices were so close in their meaning, that there was little to choose between them… so it was easy to choose the ‘incorrect’ answer. Yet, no explanation was provided in the review as to why a particular answer was either correct or incorrect. This would have been useful.

Major – I cannot access the course material now that the deadline has passed. I realise there is a security issue here (although I could have copied and passed on the material while I could access it). If I had had to buy hardcopy textbooks, I would still have them as reference. This was not explained when I was sold the course. For this reason, I would recommend the i-to-i course but with this qualification.

As a final comment, I have read the submission guidelines and find them dictatorial. How many positive or negative comments I write is up to me. If you want honest reviews, don’t give people ‘rules’. After all… it is your prerogative whether you publish a review or not.

I originally started in 2010 doing the 120 hour online course in order to increase my chances of getting a job working in Japan. Although it wasn’t a requirement to have a TEFL course, I thought it would help me stand out from the crowd a little. I only completed the weekend and 40 hour grammar portions of the course.

After almost 5 years of teaching experience here, I recently re-activated my expired account and completed the rest of the 120 hour course. I can genuinely say it was a very useful tool and I learnt things from it even after 5 years teaching.

What I would say however, is that due to the lack of actual practical teaching time in the course, it is not going to be as well regarded as the (much) more expensive CELTA or Trinity courses. For that reason I hear a lot of people struggle to land the higher end teaching jobs if they only have the online TEFL qualification without any prior experience.

For that reason I think the online course I took is most suited for people who:

i) are looking for an English teaching job that doesn’t call for a TEFL qualification.

ii) already have teaching experience but want to improve their knowledge and ideas from which to draw.

iii) Want to stand out from the crowd but don’t have the time or money to undertake a CELTA course.

iv) People who find teaching English difficult in their current job.

v) Want to learn something new, improve their CV, or broaden their understanding of the English language.

Personally, I was very impressed with the course, and my only wish is that it included more practical time to actually implement the skills that you have learned. Perhaps more videos of real life class situations where the teacher is demonstrating the techniques would be helpful, too. But for the money, I don’t think there can be many complaints about this course.

I thoroughly enjoyed my TEFL experience with I-to-I, the course instructors are very helpful and give good feedback, the material used to teach was very informative and I learned a lot during my time.

I would and have recommended I-to-I to others who have a keen interest in teaching and helping others to learn.

I found the course an excellent refresher. I studied TEFL many years ago, and this course with its highly imaginative and communicative approach has brought me up to speed. I have been able to re-evaluate and learn more about ways of teaching new language and of consolidating what is already known, as well as catch myself out in bad habits and hopefully eliminate them. I did the Advanced Grammar course too, as an add-on and here again, found gaps in my knowledge which the course helped to fill in. The learning process in all three courses was step-by-step but the Checkpoint assessments were always challenging and encouraged me to think creatively. I can certainly recommend the courses I undertook, they have boosted my confidence and given me a new impetus to seek TEFL teaching work abroad.
