I recently completed the 100-hour online TESOL certificate course, and found the information presented in the course modules to be very helpful. Now, I have some teaching experience, but had no formal training prior to taking this course. My first couple of classes teaching I was winging it, and if I had the knowledge provided in this course it would have been beneficial to my former students’ learning experience.

Apart from the excellent course content, the assigned tutors are a great resource for their insight and feedback. My tutor was Aaron, and the feedback he gave me on my assignments was useful. He pointed out the faults to my approach on my lesson plans and gave me detailed explanations on how to improve them.

Now, I highly recommend this course if you are a rookie or a seasoned veteran. The knowledge gained will be helpful to you and the students you plan to teach. The methodology covered in this course will give you a basic understanding on how to organize your lessons and provide supportive strategies to reach the different types of learners in your classroom. The assignments will help reinforce these concepts and the tutor is there to help if any questions arise.”

I wasn’t quite sure about my deicision to take an online course. Especially, with having a background in Linguistics and over 5 years of teaching experience in Korea. However, I am so glad that I went through with it. The course content covered a large variety of topics and points of concern for most teachers. The tutor was amazing with very good guidance and feedback. The materials and resources provided on the website are more than efficient to help students complete all of the necessary work required to be successful.

I can’t comment much on the practice teaching or job placement because these things weren’t required in my situation. However, I must state as an overall comment, that there is a reason why there are almost 100 positive reviews for this course and they have been in business for over 10 years. If you are looking for an internationally recognized online program no matter where you’re located in the world, then ONTESOL is definitely the way to go.

I have been teaching Spanish and French for the past 40 years. Recently, I decided to expand my certification to include English as a second language.

I was pleasantly surprised by the online course presented by Ontesol. It was a much more serious course than I had originally expected. The content deals with past and current educational theories and is very complete, and challenging.

The support from the tutor is invaluable! She is a very well prepared professional who provided very insightful comments and helpful direction through out the course. I would be happy to recommend this course to any of my friends who are thinking of getting certified to teach English.

I highly recommend this course. I had 5+ years experience teaching prior to taking it but I had no formal training. I learned so much and am definitely a better teacher now. My student evaluations are noticeably higher than before (and they were good to begin with) and my lesson planning is much more efficient. Everyone I dealt with was professional and knowledgeable. The feedback I received while doing my practicum was particularly helpful. I can imagine that doing an online course is not for everyone but for me (living in Mexico with a newborn) the flexibility was ideal.

I had my doubts about an online course, but I worked really hard for my 250-hour Ontesol diploma and learned many new an interesting things. I had already taught abroad for 3 years prior to obtaining my diploma, and I believe that the principles taught in the course have made me a better teacher. The readings are quite thorough. During the practicum, I picked up some advice that I will carry with me in all my future teach endeavours.

I haven’t had a need to use a job placement service yet, so I can’t comment on it.

I would defend this course against naysayers who look down upon online courses. I worked harder that most people whom I spoke to that took in-class courses.

This course was my first online course experience. It was very easy to use, and the tutors were very helpful. I took the 120 hour course, with the TEYL specialization. My tutors were always accessible, and I never felt like they were distant. They gave excellent feedback on all of the assignments and responded very promptly to any questions. Also, I think that the course is very well organized starting from reading/listening/studying tips and then moving onto grammar/phonology and finally ending with lesson plans. I personally don’t have any experience formally teaching so this course has given me resources and confidence to succeed in any future teaching jobs I may have. The only negative thing I would say is that sometimes it takes awhile for the administration team to reply back. However, they are always very nice and helpful, so even that is not a terribly big negative point. I would definitely recommend this program!

I was more than a little uncertain about what provider to choose for my TESOL certification, but after a lot of research Ontesol was by far the better choice out there. The course was very thorough and gave me the confidence to start a career in teaching English. My tutor was amazing. She helped me with every question I had and responded quickly. When I received her responses and corrections they were always in great detail and provided encouragement. I never felt lost or doubted this course once during the time I spent working on it. Having the knowledge and feeling the level of preparedness that this course provided will be invaluable to my future in teaching English. I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested teaching or is currently teaching English abroad.

There’s really nothing negative I can say about Ontesol. I took the 100 hour course, and I was quite happy with my experience.

The lesson plans are neatly and intuitively organized, and allow you to go at your own pace. It was nice to see that usually less-covered areas such as phonology are discussed during the course. At the end of all the chapters there are various review games, including suggestions for actual activities to utilize in the classroom, which is a nice touch.

The tests and quizzes that were given intermittently intermittently did a good job of covering the material, and the instructor I was assigned always graded them in a punctual manner and consistently offered helpful feedback on my assignments.

The comprehensive job placement section is quite impressive as well. All in all, an experience that I would recommend to anyone who is thinking about teaching English around the world.

After personally taking the 250-hour online diploma I have no hesitation in recommending this for a thorough increase in grammar, methodology and phonology proficiency for teaching english second language. The course was well paced, covered a variety of material, and built confidence in being an ESL teacher. Having already 2 years of teaching experience in Korea, I was curious to see how much I could learn from this course. The truth is, the material learned in this course cannot be learned in a classroom. In addition, I took this diploma to open up doors for higher quality teaching positions. And sure enough, a University job came up, that REQUIRED a Tesol and confirmed the value in taking this course.

The 100 hour course was a really good investment and a good introduction to TESOL. I believe they’ve added a practicum option (20 in class hours), which I didn’t get a chance to do, but I imagine would add a lot to the experience.

The course material was more challenging than I expected, which was a good thing—you are not just paying for a certificate, but for real knowledge. For someone who was quite new to both teaching and ESL, I feel I gained a good introduction to methodology, how to write a lesson plan from scratch, and many good lesson ideas, from games to classroom management. The 100-hr course is not particularly in-depth, but VERY good for learning the basics before doing something like teaching English in South Korea! They are also friendly and helpful recruiters for EPIK.
