I took my TEFL course in September of 2013 and couldn’t have been more satisfied. Here you are given practical experience in front of a classroom very early on. The course is challenging and will dominate your first month in Prague but going through it with the other students in your class really brings you close together. As stated before, it’s no joke. I really appreciated them not handling us with “kid gloves” at The Language House you’ll be held accountable and treated as an adult whether your 23 or 43.

The strong alumni community is also an invaluable benefit. Whenever I’ve needed help with absolutely anything (housing, employment, not knowing where to buy Peanut butter….) Somebody’s been there. And I can’t imagine how I’d have started out in Prague without this network. They’ve really thought of everything!

I completed the TEFL Course through The Language House in January 2015. The Language House staff were all amazing!

You start the course and it sounds incredibly challenging but once you complete it you feel ready to teach English in any situation. The course prepares you to teach a wide range of students with varying English abilities but also gives you the option of additional training for working with young learners. The Young Learners course teaches you how to create active and engaging lessons for students in a fun and friedly environment.

With a huge amount of practice teaching hours and constructive feedback from the very helpful observers you feel yourself improving and growing more competent with every lesson. As a qualified teacher in Australia this course taught me additional strategies that I will implement in my normal classroom environment. Chris and his team are always ready to lend you a hand in preparing your lesson, explaining a grammar point or even for advice about Prague.

One of the best things about The Language House is the great network of people you have in Prague. The Language House actively makes sure that you meet new people and past graduates which is great for moving alone! The whole Language House network is a friendly and welcoming group of people from all over the world.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone considering teaching English abroad!

Destination Prague, why? Because that’s where Chris Westergaard CEO and Founder of The Language House is. It took me a long time to research and find the right school and I’m glad I waited until I found TLH. The Language House has an amazing staff that’s very knowledgable, friendly and will help you acclimate to your new home in Prague with ease. They’ll assist you with everything, such as visas, bank accounts, culture shock, and generally anything else you need to know when moving to the Czech Republic. They go above and beyond what I had expected, and every staff member cares about your success. Not only does Chris and his staff know how to bring people together in a classroom, they do it in such a way, that the bond developed between you and your classmates will last a lifetime. Thanks for everything!

I’ve been wanting to travel all my life.. so I finally decided to move to Prague to take the TEFL course with The Language House. It was not only a huge challenge, but one of the biggest decisions I’ve made in my life. Now that I finished the course, I can say that I am so grateful to have done it. The course is very demanding, but can be accomplished. The Language House prepares you for life as a teacher and offers assistance along the way. The community here is strong and supportive. I’ve made amazing friends, learned more then just teaching English, overcome many challenges and have so much more to look forward to.

If you’re reading this review, there’s a good chance you’re considering a future teaching English in a foreign country, maybe the Czech Republic, and so you need a school to get you TEFL certified. Seriously, this is THE school to consider.

I took the course in March 2014 and it wasn’t anything like I expected. In fact, I don’t even remember what I expected because all expectations were totally erased once I realized, on about day one, how unique this experience was going to be.

First, of course, the training. Thorough doesn’t even begin to describe it. The instruction is broad, but still very consistent with a specific method of teaching. The classes are interactive. And the way we learn is totally meta. In other words, the same method we’re being taught to use with ESL students is also the same method being used to teach us. It’s brilliant and effective.

Second, the transition. I had considered doing a TEFL course in the states and then moving here with a certification to look for a job, etc, but today I can’t even imagine how that would have worked out. Moving to the Czech Republic requires skill, attention, and patience. There are a lot of things to do when you get here so that you can stay here. Some of these things you might already know. Some of these things you might only think you know. And some of these things you’ll discover when they come up, as they come up. Early on in his communication with me, Chris Westergaard, TLH director, offered every resource his school could provide with helping settle in. And if the school couldn’t provide something, he would do what he could on his own. Experienced proved that this offer was as sincere as offers come. Jobs, housing, Czech bureaucracy, nothing you have to do alone.

Third, the community. The students are cool. The teachers are cool. The observers are really cool. You’ll go through this intense course with a group of people who, for the rest of all of your lives, will be the only ones who will ever understand that one insane month at TLH. You’ll have a network of peers, both during the course and after, with whom to consult and explore and complain. It’s like bootcamp, but with fewer pushups and more grammar.

I am really glad that I chose The Language House over other TEFL courses. I had heard great things about it, and was actually able to experience it for myself. Not only did I learn the methodology of teaching English as a foreign language, I also had hands on experience in a classroom which made huge difference. I have made life long friends and am now living in a beautiful city that I am proud to call my new home.

I took the October 2014 TLH course and am so glad I did. The faculty and staff at the school were incredibly helpful during my transition from Chicago to Prague. I was picked up at the airport, brought to my apartment, and given multiple tours of the city. The course itself was very useful, especially because I had never taught before. The feedback from the in-class course gave me the confidence I needed to start working. Along with the gentle transition of moving abroad, I’ve also made amazing friends! I’m glad to say that I am now apart of the TLH family!

I am incredibly happy that I decided to go to The Language House in Prague. As soon as the course starts you are aware that you have joined a community that you can always be a part of. I feel comfortable living here because all the support the course and the previous grads offer. The month you do the course will go by so fast because it is so full of work. It is exhausting and you have to be committed but it is really worth it. You get to teach starting your second week and by the end of the month you feel comfortable in the classroom. I couldn’t have picked a better option.

I’ve just graduated from TLH TEFL. Literally just =) Well, Friday last week. It was an amazing experience in so many ways. The course is extremely intense, hard work and I’ve never done anything like it before. But, it is absolutely worth it. I was satisfied with the contents and the training we received. All the trainers are highly competent and helpful. Not only that, there is also a lot of humor and fun packed into the lessons. I learned a lot about teaching a foreign language but also what it means to be an L2 learner, thanks to the teaching style of the course, the contents and of course the 12 hours of teaching absolved. It was great to be able to watch fellow students teach as well and to get feedback from different observers every week. The observers are always helpful and lesson planning guidance is excellent.

I’m not gonna say this is easy, because it’s not, it’s not vacation! But it is doable, and anyone who would like to become a teacher of EFL or a better teacher should do it! Plus, Prague is an awesome place, the people who run the course and work for the school are great and the alumni community is tight and ready to help with so many things =) You won’t be alone if you ever feel homesick, and people are always there to help you if you’re struggling or to socialize and have a good time! The course provides help and assistance in finding a place and a job (they won’t find it for you, but they do help you!), everyone on the staff and owner Chris Westergaard are always ready to answer any questions no matter what time of day. They are always ready to help you, whether this might be finding a gym, moving your stuff from one place to another, tips on where to buy cheap funiture or any other things you might need assistance with.

Participating in the month long course at The Language House was the best decision I could make when deciding to come to Prague to become an English teacher. The teachers were fantastic, passionate about their subject and provided useful information on whatever we requested. The course is intense and has a heavy work load but once the month is over I can guarantee you will feel ready to find a job wherever it is you wish to within the English teaching community.
