Taking the TEFL Worldwide Prague course was one of the best decisions of my life. I learned more about teaching and the English language than I ever thought was possible. The professors were incredibly knowledgeable and supportive. They also were very helpful in helping me land a teaching job. Although I am not currently working as a teacher, this course has given me invaluable skills: self-confidence, improved public speaking and teaching ability, and enhanced knowledge of the English language. I highly recommend taking this course.

I would highly recommend choosing TEFL Worldwide Prague if you are considering receiving a TEFL certification. The classes were very informative, small, and had a lot of hands on participation that prepared you for teaching. The instructors provided useful feedback throughout the course, and were available for questions or discussion outside of the classroom when asked. Employees and teachers were extremely helpful in giving advice and guidance for “all things Prague” – housing, jobs, visas, travelling, transport, restaurants, etc. My experience with TEFL and in Prague thereafter was one of the best times in my life thus far – so, stop reading and sign up now. You won’t regret it!!

My TEFL experience exceeded all my expectations. The course is very challenging but equally rewarding. The instructors Kenny and Dan are incredibly knowledgeable and are always available to offer support and guidance in any way they can. One great bonus about TEFL Worldwide Prague is the job guidance and assistance in looking for an apartment once the course has finished. I can only speak good things about the course and would highly encourage anyone to do it. You make friends for life during the 4 weeks as well as learning plenty of new skills.

The TEFL course is one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences I’ve had. The work load is difficult but definitely doable if you commit to it. The instructors are amazing and willing to help with anything you need. I have learned so much about myself as a person and a teacher and I would recommend this course to anyone seeking a new adventure.

Greatest decision of my life! To begin with, the support staff were extremely helpful while I was planning my move to Prague and were always happy to answer any questions I had. Dan and Kenny were excellent lead teachers who made every class fun and interesting. The course load was heavy, but evenly distributed throughout the course so that you always had enough time and support to finish your assignments. What I was most surprised with was the amount of hands-on teaching experience I got while getting certified at TEFL Worldwide Prague. I feel well prepared to face the Prague job market and would encourage anyone else looking to teach English abroad to get certified though TEFL Worldwide Prague.

I was a bit anxious before I packed my bags and moved 5,000 miles away, without knowing anyone, to complete a TEFL course that I had found online. However, I was pleasantly surprised and really couldn’t have asked for a better program. Was it intensive? Absolutely. There were moments where I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry because of all the work I had to complete. But the staff was so supportive, encouraging, and helpful before, during, and after the course. Looking back, it was the best educational experience I’ve ever had.

Although I dreaded the long day of classes each week, every single lesson was stimulating, relevant, and…fun! Kenny and Dan are top-notch instructors. They are always there to answer questions and provide useful, personalized feedback. By the end of the course, I felt confident in teaching any level of English. The jobs are very plentiful in Prague. I had many options immediately upon graduating. But you’re not limited to just Prague! With this certificate, you can teach anywhere in the world and the staff will help you with that, as well.

As far as the different TEFL program options in Prague, I did a lot of research before and have talked to friends who chose competitor programs. I would still choose TEFL Worldwide Prague over any other program. If you are like I was before coming to Prague, you’re probably making excuses, thinking that this program might be a scam, wondering if you should just play it safe and continue your mundane work at home. My advice to you…Just Go!

I just completed my TEFL world wide course and if there is anything you should know it is that the course it not just a walk in the park. I had an amazing time in and out of the class room. I strengthened my teaching abroad as well as a home if I should choose to teach again back there. If you are not used to a heavy course work then you might be overwhelmed but if you dedicate yourself to the course it will be well worth what you put it. The instructors are amazing and really there to help you if you need them. I have my teaching degree and they gave my a unique insight to teaching that I’m able to use the rest of my life is I so choose to. The experience I gained while at the school was something I don’t believe I could have gained elsewhere. They send you detailed information to help you look for places to stay in prague as well as jobs in prague and worldwide. If you are looking for a helpful and friendly environment to complete your tefl course you couldn’t pick a better group of people. I had a job before even completing the course. Be ready for a worthwhile experience. And bottom line you’ll get out what you put in. Enjoy.

I had the opportunity to take part in the April 2014 course provided by this school. I consider those four weeks to be one of the best experiences of my life. The people I met, and the things I learned seriously changed me for the better and left me feeling prepared to enter the world of English teaching. Also, the course in Prague. Prague.

That’s enough gushing, now to the review proper.

Course Content:

The course is intense. By this, I mean think of a particularly challenging class you took at one point in your life, and then multiply it by 2 or 3. The entire thing is a crash course. You show up and shortly after you are thrown into teaching with only a vague idea of what to do and basically learn how to teach as you go along. While this may sound scary and as if it makes little sense, after experiencing it, I personally think it is a pretty effective method of teaching how to teach.

For starters, you learn fairly quickly what are the wrong things to do. From there, you can refine your technique as you go along and by the end, get a deep sense of accomplishment. In some regards, it is almost like starting out as an elementary language learner and then finishing as an intermediate to upper intermediate (depending on how much you take away from the various lessons).

When it comes to the lessons in actually teaching, the course struggles slightly. The information presented isn’t terrible or useless by any means. It has to do with the methodology (crash course). The instructors teach a lesson treating you as a learner. At the end of the demonstration lesson, you are asked to break down what you experienced with your classmates and the instructors go over it with you. Various demonstrations are given throughout the course and that’s it. If you are lucky, you get a demonstration of something you are expected to teach before you teach it. If you are unlucky, then you go in blind and have to figure it out based on information that has been provided up to that point.

That being said, the roughest part of teaching is in the beginning. By the end of week two, things start to get a lot smoother as far as teaching goes because you will have enough experience to start piecing things together yourself and more importantly, have enough experience to start asking the right questions of the instructors.

Practice Teaching:

The practice teaching is great. You end up teaching something like 8 or 10 classes and each one makes you a better teacher, with the starting lessons being the roughest due to a lack of experience/knowledge, and the latter ones being much easier. The students are all amazing and generally cooperative and the one on one experience is probably the best part of the course as it really tests everything you have learned so far.

Unfortunately, due to how they determine the levels of the different students, there are situations where you end up teaching a class full of people who are a lower level than they should be, and in some instances, a higher level. This can be pretty stressful as a new teacher when material you planned is either too hard or too easy and you are left floundering.

To be fair to the course, I imagine there are real world situations where you could encounter this situation and as a teacher, you will be expected to deal with it. This is a personal aside, but I think it is better to experience failure in a classroom environment than when you are on the job.

For practice teaching, you are split into groups of either two or three and you are each responsible for a 50 minute lesson. This gives you the chance to observe your group mates and provide feedback, something that is essential to your development as a teacher.

Unless there are some rather unique circumstances, you will not switch groups. You will, however, be offered the opportunity to view the classmates outside of your group teach (provided you get their permission). I highly suggest you take the opportunity to do so. Admittedly, it will be hard to do so during weeks 1-2 as you are still figuring things out yourself, but week 3 (assuming you stay on top of your work) and 4 are the perfect times to do so.

Quality of Feedback:

After each practice teaching, you will receive feedback from an instructor (they rotate out). The feedback is usually pretty spot on and assuming you listen to it, you will come out a better teacher for it. That being said, it is also rather subjective since it depends on the instructor assigned to your lesson. This is just a personal aside, but I think it is a fair representation of what you can expect to encounter once you start teaching for a living. As such, while there may be times where you disagree with the feedback given, it would still behoove you to take it into consideration for the next lesson.

The instructors do in fact consult each other, and if you consistently ignore feedback that they consider to be especially important to your ability to teach, you will suffer the consequences in the form of a negative review for one of your lessons or in the form of being required to teach lessons that force you to incorporate their feedback or fail.

A personal example of this is when I consistently failed to make my lesson plans detailed enough and actually stick to them for the full fifty minutes. This was noted, and I was required to teach a lesson that required me to plan in a lot more depth than I usually did. I failed to do so and as a result failed the lesson.

Lesson Plan Guidance:

This is the lowest score I will give to the course as a whole. The reason for it is that the school has hours that make it rather difficult to talk to the instructors in depth for assistance in planning your lesson. The time exists, but it is extremely limited. The only solution I can think of is for the school to be open either earlier till later or at the very least, be open on weekend.

That’s not to say it is impossible to plan a lesson or get help, if that was the case, no one would pass the course and I would have had a miserable time. It is more difficult than what it needs to be to acquire assistance.

To be fair, once again, this is basically what you can expect once you start working on your own. Sure, you can pull information from other teachers, but in the end, it is all on you, as it should be. For a school though, I would expect better assistance.

Instructor Competency:

The instructors know their stuff. I could go on like the other sections, but I want to assure you that for what they are teaching, they certainly know. The only thing I think they might struggle on is in teaching children.

Aside from that, any question I had, they were able to answer or at the very least, point me in the direction of the answer and let me find it myself.

Better yet, they are amazing at handling disruptions and show you how to handle them as a teacher. I say this because I was disruptive (i.e, class clown).

If you pay attention to what they are saying and actually take notes, then you’ll be able to leave the course competent yourself (though maybe not as competent, that takes more experience).

Job Placement:

I am giving this a five only because every student I know who looked for a job actually found one. Not to mention the job fair, which was pretty neat. Even after you leave the course, they’ll still try to find you a job. In fact, that leads to the next section….

Facilities/Resources:

The hours aside, the resources are amazing. They have a library that has most of what you need to teach whatever it is that is expected of you. The office staff is amazing. Seriously amazing. I had questions about where things where in Prague or how to do different things and they did their best to help me as well as my fellow classmates when they had questions. Even after you graduate, you are still welcome into the school to make use of the library and hang out assuming you aren’t being disruptive.

—————-

Overall, I would recommend this course to anyone, and in fact have (much to the annoyance of friends and family), despite some of the issues I mentioned above. The school wants you to succeed, and to me, that is the most important part of the experience. The tools are provided, it is up to you to make use of them, and if they see that you are having trouble along the way, they’ll do their best to help you use them correctly.

If you are looking for something new in your life and you appreciate a challenge instead of breezing through things, this is for you.

I wasn’t the smartest person in my class and I still managed to pass. I imagine those of you reading this are probably smarter than me. As such, I see no reason for you not to sign up and take part in an amazing experience.

I am happy I chose TEFL Worldwide to get my certificate. Before I came, I was weighing my options with a couple of schools. I couldn’t imagine going through with another school. The teachers Dan and Kenny were super helpful. They guided you along the way with their feedback and their assistance. There were also many resources you could use. The staff helps you with job guidance, apartment hunting, and the visa process. I had a great experience and would recommend this course to everyone!

I completed the TEFL course in Prague in July of this year, 2014. The overall quality of the course was amazing and the experience was just as great! Not only did I love the other people in my course, but the instructors and observers were amazing as well and I learned so much in just one month. I come from a background of having absolutely no teaching experience and being shy speaking in front of others, and I left feeling more confident and ready to teach than I thought possible. They give you the resources and help you need, but you still need to put in the effort…a lot of it! The more you put in the more you get out. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking go teach abroad, make new friends, or to just travel and experience something new!
